Ember Conley

Women in Leadership

Introduction

A little background on Ember Conley.

Dr. Ember Conley is an Educator, a Community Leader, and a Change Agent living in Salt Lake City, Utah.

For Ember, leadership was a foundational building block in her life. As the youngest of her siblings, she spent her childhood watching her father run his business. With a few employees on his team, she grew up watching him lead and recognizing his guidance. His example really set her on the path of leadership and enforced the principles of self-advocacy, perseverance, and determination.

After gaining some experience in her career as an educator, Ember Conley’s career saw her step into the role of Principal, a move that made her the youngest female Principal in the state of Colorado at the time. In her new position, she was serving a decently sized student body in her 4A district. Stepping into this role, Ember had a chance – for the first time – to build a team and channel her leadership skills; however, at the same time, her eyes were opened to the reality of the obstacles that women must overcome in positions of leadership.

In her life at the time, Ember Conley didn’t fit the model of a typical female in leadership.  As a young, single woman, she quickly became acquainted with the roadblocks and loopholes that women have to face and navigate in the professional world. However, Ember’s love for education fortified her determination to effect positive change in the education system. After all, she’d always been scrappy; a single mom and a fighter, Ember was no stranger to making ends meet and getting things done.

Throughout her time in education and as a woman in leadership, Ember realized the severe lack of mentorship and guidance available to women pursuing positions of leadership. While she had professional peers with whom she worked closely, there was no specific training that prepared her for what she’d need to be aware of and how to navigate the path to leadership. Now, with her experience and insight, Ember Conley wants to be a voice for women and uplift other women in leadership who are effecting change. She is determined to stand her ground and not back down just because people don’t like that she brought a necessary change to their attention.

Women in Mentorship

Ember Conley’s drive to guide other women to leadership

Throughout her time in education and as a woman in leadership, Ember realized the severe lack of mentorship and guidance available to women pursuing positions of leadership. While she had professional peers with whom she worked closely, there was no specific training that prepared her for what she’d need to be aware of and how to navigate the path to leadership. Now, with her experience and insight, Ember Conley wants to be a voice for women and uplift other women in leadership who are effecting change. She is determined to stand her ground and not back down just because people don’t like that she brought a necessary change to their attention.

Through her years of experience operating in professional spheres, Ember Conley has spent hours learning about and studying change theory and the stages of change. For change to happen, there are steps – including recognition and building a team – that you need to take to get to the other side. These stages – called Norming, Storming, and Forming – can help us all identify the issue at hand, normalize it, determine the best approach, build a team, and then execute the strategy.
